Remember him drinking piss out of a bottle thrown at him at Stamford Bridge.
Spastic-faced waste of young talent.

Because all he ever did 'wrong' was over-celebrate a goal against us.
You can tell that he still cares.

Remember being excited by that team of the late 90's when we brought so many good young players through. Cole had a good career despite maybe never living up to the 'new Gazza' hype. Oddly his England career stats are almost identical to Gazza's.

In 1998 the Times had the headline The White Pele
Didn't quite reach those heights. Had so much expectation and as some have said it makes me feel very old as does seeing Rio reach 40 lampard s manager and carrick retiring. Recall all of these making debuts and in the youths.!

Joe gave us some good entertainment, but at the end of the day he was always a disappointment for me. Especially his headless dribbles into the box that came to nothing

It's a funny one with Joe. I look back it his spells with us with great affection, but lurking in the back of my mind is always that memory of him diving in to the Chelsea crowd after scoring against us a few years back (whilst clearly mouthing "Fuck 'em, fuck 'em"). OK, it was hardly posing in another team's shirt whilst contracted to us, but it still stings a bit given who he was playing for and the fans he was coveting at the time.
But I have heard many a genuine story about him which put him in a very positive stature and shows what a good character he is. He also makes no secret of his affection for West Ham (although to my recollection has never acknowledged the aforementioned Chelsea-celebration incident, but nobody's perfect).
I guess what I am trying to say is that I prefer him to Lampard.

Saw an interview he did recently with Paul Merson and you can't help but liken Joe. He spoke very highly about West Ham.
Today with all these formations etc teams would probably have got the very best out of him and just let him go out and play but you can't fault the career he had. Sadly came back on the decline and it didn't help the Walrus was in charge!!!

He's a good chap, spoke to him at my cousins wedding and he said he genuinely loved his time at the Irons.
I didn't bother him about when he scored for Chelsea as didn't want to spoil the reception.

As a footballer, he came across to me like one of those china Dalmations you sometimes see in peoples houses. Pretty to look at but serves fo fucking purpose whatsoever.

I can't get too misty eyed about his retirement. After all, along with those great young players we let go such as Johnson, Ferdinand, Lampard, Carrick and Defoe he wasn't with us for much more than a couple of years. More Chelsea than West Ham to me. Thanks T. Brown, you cunt.
And yes, Mourinho did ruin him. Turned one the most gifted play-makers into a fucking left sided water carrier.

This makes me feel very old. He had a great career under Mourinho at Chelsea. I suppose he was the kind of player you needed to build a team around or incorporate him into a formation like Mourinho did. I am not sure he was ever that good enough for option 1. He was also fantastic in that 1-0 win at Old Trafford in the cup.
